4th of July is here. The best part about this time of year for me is that our fruit plants have plentiful fruit on them.  Last year I wrote a little about our fruit on our homegrown blackberries and raspberries post.  This past year I split, repotted, and planted a bunch of plants near quadrupling my production.  This year we have had more strawberries than we had in the past due to the weather without adding more plants.  Johanna loves to eat any fruit that has the name berry in it.  Berries in the store can cost a lot of money.  Growing my own saves me a lot of money.

We have Braeden this year for his first 4th of July.  Braeden also loves berries.  If we can’t get him to eat food, then we just add some raspberries and he will generally eat it.  Finally at 9 months of age his bottom two front teeth are coming in.  General teethers do sometimes work for him, but what works even better are Fresh Fruit Feeders.  They allow him to enjoy one of his favorite foods, without the risk of choking.  Plus it’s a great teether.  For an even prolonged enjoyment, you can stick the feeder in the freezer.  Your child’s playtime/eating activity lasts even longer.

This activity though does come at a minimal cost.  Fruit feeders can be very messy.   Generally I place Braeden in an area that he can make a mess.  Often I let him chew on the teether while still in his pajamas.  That way I can put him in clean clothes right after.  Then of course I have to rinse his clothes so they don’t stain.  Either way, he is getting a snack that is homegrown, no chemicals, and healthy.

For those looking at teethers for a baby, this might be your answer.  Anyway, on this Independence Day stay safe and enjoy your fireworks and remember why we celebrate this holiday.
