It feels like yesterday when we had Johanna watch fireworks for the first time at Jolene’s uncle’s home. Fast forward 6 years for Independence Day Braeden got his first dose of fireworks. We went to Jolene’s grandparents’ home to watch the fireworks. Luckily they live close enough to a big fireworks display.  We can just watch them from their backyard.  Afterwords we lit some of our own.

To begin the evening we had hotdogs, and Braeden had a hose.  He enjoyed drinking out of the hose for the first time.  That brings back memories of watering plants on the ranch when I was a kid.  When thirsty, a quick drink from the hose would suffice.  Jolene wasn’t too happy he got all wet, but I think it was worth the fun experience.  Plus he was already dirty from his meal.

When the neighbors shot off a firework, Braeden’s cousin started to cry.  Which in turn made Braeden cry as well.  Johanna has never cried with fireworks.  I personally believe it’s a learned behavior.  After his cousin left we exposed him to more fireworks.  He never cried again.  He was mesmerized by the lights and bangs.  Hopefully we set him up for success for future years.

I always enjoy the first time experiences of my kids. Once again I was caught behind the camera, and really didn’t experience it first hand. I need to remind myself more to experience it, and not just record it.
